Biography
Dina Debbas is a photographer based in Beirut who loves her work because it gives her an opportunity to be close to people and their stories. She has worked for humanitarian organisations, magazines, newspapers and corporate clients, while she also runs her own studio in Beirut, specialising in family portraits.
Whatever the context, whether in the studio or in the field, Dina makes people feel at ease, maintaining their dignity and bringing out their individuality.
Over the years, Dina has built portfolios at home in Lebanon and abroad, working for a variety of clients and organisations including UNICEF, Doctors Without Borders (MSF), Caritas, Femme Magazine and Doha 1st Investment Bank.
Dina has a special place in her heart for taking pictures of children, whose openness and wonder are a constant source of inspiration. She is also sensitive to the inequalities of our world. In 2011, Dina kickstarted a project that brought children together from their disparate social, religious, economic and ethnic backgrounds. The initiative, which was named Repercussions, used music and the body as percussion, to help children break down financial and linguistic barriers, and find other ways to interact and communicate. Thanks to Repercussions, 150 children and teenagers took part in a five-day workshop led by US-based dance company and non-profit Step Afrika! The initiative culminated in a free public performance in Beirut.
In addition to running her studio in Beirut, Dina is also a Biodynamic Craniosacral therapist. This latest skill is just another, perhaps more intimate, way to connect.
