Repercussions

Working as a photographer in Lebanon. I was exposed to very diverse situations. From the field to the studio there was such a big gap, mainly expressed in a strong social segregation. I felt a need to address this issue.
Children, from very young ages, are isolated by social class; furthermore, there are no public spaces where children from all walks of life can meet. It felt important to offer children from different religious, social and cultural background the opportunity to meet and yet overcome the language and financial barriers.
In 2011, I came up with the idea of using body percussion as a way to interact and communicate. This social project was named “Repercussions”. Together with friends, volunteers and sponsors we gathered 150 children from all walks of life and offered them a 5-day workshop given by Step Afrika! that ended with a free public performance in Beirut. All photos by Nicolas Lieber
